How to report a copy of your work on Etsy

Checked against Etsy's official pages on

Etsy listings are reported through Etsy's Reporting Portal. You register once, add your work as an intellectual property, then build reports that list the infringing listings. Etsy suggests contacting the seller first.

Before you start
  • An Etsy account. Sellers reporting their own work sign in with their shop account.
  • A link to your own published work.
  • The URL or listing ID of each copy. The ID is the number in the listing URL.
  • Your name, physical address, phone and email.
  • A letter of authorisation if you report for an employer or client.

Step by step

  1. 01

    Register on the Reporting Portal

Go to etsy.com/ipreporting, sign in or create an account, choose who owns the rights, and add your details.

  2. 02

    Add your work

In the Intellectual Properties tab, add a property, choose copyright, add the owner, give the work's name and details, and link to an example of your work in use.

  3. 03

    Create the report

In the Reports tab, name the report, choose the owner and the work, then search for or add each infringing listing.

  4. 04

    Review and submit

Check every listing and your contact details, confirm the statements, and submit. You get a confirmation email and can track the report in the Reports tab.

What the notice must include
  • §A good-faith statement that the use isn't authorised.
  • §A statement, under penalty of perjury, that you're authorised to act for the owner.
  • §Each infringing listing's URL, not just a shop name.
  • §A clear description of your original work.

After you file

  • If the report complies, Etsy removes the content and contacts the seller. You receive an outcome email.
  • For copyright reports, the seller can file a counter notice, which is shared with you.
  • The seller may relist 10 business days after Etsy processes the counter notice, unless you tell Etsy you're seeking a court order.
  • Etsy doesn't publish a standard review time.

Why reports get rejected

  • Missing name, physical address, phone number or email.
  • Too little description of the work.
  • A shop name or username instead of each listing URL.
  • An “example of your work” link that points at the seller's listing instead of yours.

Repeat infringers

Repeat reports of infringement can cost a seller their account privileges, and Etsy tells reported sellers not to relist the content unless the issue is resolved.
