How to report a copy of your work on eBay

Checked against eBay's official pages on

eBay's Verified Rights Owner (VeRO) programme lets rights owners and their authorised agents report listings that infringe their intellectual property. Reports go through the VeRO Portal. For copyright, eBay also accepts DMCA notices by email.

Before you start
  • Access to the VeRO Portal, which you sign in to from eBay's VeRO page.
  • The item number of each infringing listing (the number in ebay.com/itm/…).
  • A description of your copyrighted work and a link to it.
  • Your address, phone number and email.

Step by step

  1. 01

Sign in to the VeRO Portal

From pages.ebay.com/vero, open the VeRO Portal to submit reports, manage your rights and track activity.

  2. 02

    Report the listings

Start a report, choose copyright, and add the item numbers. Copied images or text in a listing count as listing-content infringement.

  3. 03

    Describe and declare

Describe your work and the infringement, then sign the good-faith statement and the statement under penalty of perjury.

  4. 04

    Or send a DMCA notice

For copyright you can instead email a notice to copyright@ebay.com. eBay lists its postal and fax details on the VeRO page.

What the notice must include
  • §Your physical or electronic signature.
  • §A description of the copyrighted work.
  • §Where the infringing material appears on eBay.
  • §Your address, phone number and email.
  • §A good-faith statement, and a statement under penalty of perjury that the notice is accurate and you're authorised.

After you file

  • eBay checks the report for completeness and may contact you.
  • Infringing listings are removed as quickly as possible, and the seller is notified.
  • For US copyright reports, the seller can send a counter notice. eBay forwards it and reinstates the listing after 10 business days unless you tell eBay you've filed a court action.
  • To retract a report, email askvero@ebay.com from an authorised address.

Why reports get rejected

  • Using VeRO to control resale or minimum prices, which isn't allowed.
  • Reports from someone who isn't the rights owner or their agent. Use the listing's Report link instead.

Repeat infringers

Sellers who keep infringing face escalating consequences, up to permanent suspension. Ended listings still count toward a violation.
